It May Not Be On Plan For YOU!
by Meggan Larson

The world of on plan Trim Healthy Mama friendly foods is vast. There are so many on plan items that it can sometimes be hard to choose! Of course we all have our favourites and foods that we just can’t stand (or won’t try…ahem…okra), but for the most part there should be enough variety to keep you going for weeks and weeks. There are, however, some items that simply call to us. That food is going to look differently for everyone but one fact remains, we may not be able to eat it even though it’s on plan.

Here’s why…

It May Not Be On Plan For YOU

It can be cheese, whipping cream, skinny chocolate, nuts, etc. but there are some foods that we have an incredibly hard time staying away from. Where someone else can have a small handful of nuts, you may not be able to stop at just a few. Where someone else can eat a few bites of skinny chocolate, you may have a hard time not eating the entire batch. There are some who can show a great deal of self-restraint and then there are others (like myself) who have a harder time doing that. Those foods may be on plan, however, it’s important to know your limitations. If it’s too much of a temptation for you to have something (even if it IS technically on plan) then don’t have it!

I see so many people struggling, overindulging, and then beating themselves up about it. Is it really worth it? It’s not a forever thing. If you need to lay down that temptation for a season until you are at your goal weight then you need to decide if it’s worth it. Which is more important to you, a bin of cashews or getting to goal weight? It seems silly to put it that way because the answer is obvious but I know it’s not that simple when the pile of nuts is staring you in the face. That’s why it’s better to just not have it in the house. Make things easier on yourself not harder. You’ll be able to indulge again someday but today (if you want to reach your goal) is not that day.

    Meggan,
Thanks so much for your encouragement. This really spoke to me, I do have a problem with nuts and skinny chocolate and making myself “stop”. I have used the excuse in my head, that it’s better than eating off plan, “cookies and candy” that I used to do. That actually worked pretty well when I first started the plan but now I’m close to goal but just not getting there. I’ve got to figure out what changes to make to actually reach my goal.
Thanks for caring about others on this journey!
