It Always Looks Worse Before It Gets Better

It Always Looks Worse Before It Gets Better

You would think I would know how to operate a curling iron by now, wouldn’t you? I mean, I’m in my 40s, for cryin’ out loud! But, alas, I guess not. The other day I was curling my hair and accidentally brushed the curling iron up against my face. OUCH! That sucker HURT! Immediately, I put some ice on face until the pain subsided.

I went to look in the mirror–phew! There wasn’t a single mark. I wasn’t sure how I escaped that, but I’m sure glad I did. No blister, no redness, nothing!

Then I woke up the next morning with a big, red mark on the side of my face. The craziest thing about it was that it didn’t hurt a bit. All pain was gone, but now I had a huge red mark on my face! Yeah, I was lookin’ mighty fine!!

Here’s why I’m sharing this with you–

It works with burns, abrasions, and even life situations. Things always seem to look worse before they get better.

Here’s how it works. We start making positive changes in our lives and then, out of nowhere, we feel like we have awakened a giant of opposition. We decide to get in shape and then sprain our ankle. We decide to get caught up on the laundry and the washing machine breaks. Are you with me? Do you know what I’m talking about? Have you ever experienced this?

Here’s what’s going on–there is a force of inertia that goes into effect whenever you decide to break out of your comfort zone and start making headway in an area. Here’s what I want you to understand about this principle. It’s there for a reason. We all have to go through our “how bad do you want it?” phase. This is the phase where the giant of opposition stares us down and we dig in our heels and KEEP MAKING PROGRESS!

Don’t let the opposition defeat you. It may look like a giant, but here’s the truth–it’s an invisible giant. When you keep making progress and approach that giant, you will be able to walk right through him. He doesn’t stand a chance against your persistence!

Galatians 6:9 tells us, “let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” That’s a big “if,” Mama! IF we do not give up!

Abundant lives do not belong to those who get lucky. They are born to those who refuse to back down. Don’t get discouraged if the results look worse before they get better. It’s your turn and when you keep going–no matter what–the victory is YOURS!

hannah_keeleyHannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
