Is Stress Causing Your Stall?
By Meggan Larson
Recently I had a friend confide in me that she was in an unhealthy relationship with someone. She knew she needed to walk away for her own health and peace of mind, but she struggled with the decision. He made her feel special and wanted, and they had so much in common. They talked all the time, laughed at all the same jokes, and cared very deeply for each other.
The only issue was that she was married…
Yikes. Even though she was just friends with this person, she knew she had to end the friendship. She knew that she was dishonoring her husband by continuing to spend more time with this man than with him. The constant stress of the situation was causing her to lose sleep, to have heart palpitations, and to gain weight. She was 100% on plan, eating all the right foods, and drinking water all day long. She was taking amazing supplements to support her body but she was still gaining weight because her body was under stress. Blood work revealed that her endocrine system was struggling to function properly due to the high level of stress she was under. It was causing her not to sleep well and to have high cortisol levels. When your body is in a high state of stress, it’s nearly impossible to lose weight. You can be doing everything else right, but if the main stressor is still present in your life then nothing will change.
If you’ve been experiencing a stall and you know that you have a constant stressor in your life, it may be time to remove it. It may not be as dramatic as this example, or it may be worse. If your body is in a constant state of stress it’s going to affect every area of your health.
My friend and I prayed together and after ending the friendship, she was able to sleep properly again and lost 10lbs within a couple of weeks. If it’s possible, get rid of the stress in your life. Do whatever you can to minimize it because the effect it’s having on you is NOT worth it!
