Is it Time for a Food Break?
By Meggan Larson
I’m the type of person that likes to investigate when there’s an issue; most of the time. Sometimes I just sit around and wait for the problem to solve itself and shockingly that never seems to happen! Weird right? Anyway, last week I was tired of going up and down the same couple of pounds so I decided to experiment with something. To my surprise, it worked. I mean it REALLY worked.
What did I try?
I decided to try going dairy free for a bit to see what would happen. Honestly, I never thought that I ate much dairy. It wasn’t until I took a look at my meal plans each week that I realized how much cheese, cream, cream cheese, whipping cream, etc I was eating. I mean I wasn’t eating all of those things every day but I was definitely consuming some kind of dairy on the daily. I figured what the heck? I honestly hadn’t considered it before because I always take cream in my coffee and I couldn’t imagine the thought of not having cream in my coffee or worse, not having coffee! Like that’s even an option. Hah! My sweet precious husband of mine used some extra birthday money he received to order me some MCT oil and Collagen so that I could start making bulletproof coffee again. Yes, I use butter in it but butter is neutral in the body so I’m not super worried about that.
In less than a week I lost 4 & ½ pounds! Isn’t that wild?? I am still eating plenty of good fats like avocado, olive oil, fatty meats, etc and I really haven’t missed dairy in the least. To my surprise, my husband decided to try it too and while I won’t get into embarrassing details for his benefit, suffice it to say that his gas has been significantly reduced (as has the smell). That’s good news for everyone in my opinion!
I’m not saying I’ll never eat cheese again but for now, I’m fine without it and when I decide to add some dairy into my life again I’ll use it sparingly and infrequently. If you have an inkling that something you eat regularly might be causing your weight gain or stall, maybe it’s time to cut it out for a while even if it is dairy. I used to think that I could NEVER give up something like dairy but when I weighed it with my goal of getting to goal weight, it was a no brainer.
