Insider Essential Oil Tips
by Terri Bonin
We all know the basic and most common ways to use essential oils. And, that’s great! Essential oils are so powerful and worth every drop. BUT! Did you know that you can use your essential oils for these situations?
Stinky, Soccer, Smelly Shoes
If your kids play sports or are just plain active outside, then you have probably experienced stinky shoe syndrome. You know what I mean. A smell that could curl your eyebrows! Yuck!
Here’s a solution…
Take two cotton balls and put a few drops of your favorite essential oil on each one, we love purification! Put one cotton in each foul-smelling shoe. Your eyebrows
will start to return to their normal look soon.
I Need Butterflies!
As a homeschooling family, we have studied the life of the butterfly through books. But, nothing beats having butterflies in your backyard. Have your kids get some cotton balls and put three drops of lavender essential oil on them. Then let them put the cotton balls throughout your garden to attract butterflies. Your kids will love checking on the plants several times day and finding a butterfly. And finding a butterfly is way more fun than a Pokemon. Just sayin’!
Do You Have a Monster in the Closet or Under the Bed?
This happens to just about every little one. Somehow or another (thank you Monsters Inc.!) a child will get it in their head that there is a monster in their bedroom.
Make your own “Anti-Monster Repellant” spray with lavender essential oil and water. Your little one can use it before bedtime by spraying it around their room where they think the monsters live.
Dogs and Thunder
If your dog becomes a scaredy-cat when they hear thunder, then alleviate the panic attack they are having by adding few drops of frankincense essential oil to your diffuser and run it in the same room with you and your pet. Spend a few minutes reassuring your furry friend that all is well with a little petting and sweet and scratching behind their ears. This can also help with dogs that are afraid of fireworks too.
Sweet Smelling Fireplace
Add 10 drops of your favorite essential oil to a dry log a couple of days before you plan to light it. This will allow the oil to penetrate the wood so when it is burned it gives off a nice essential oil aroma.
I Hate Spiders!
Yes! I am a spider hater. There I said it. So, since I don’t like these creepy crawly little pests, I will use peppermint oil to keep them away. All you need to do is soak a few cotton balls in peppermint essential oil and then place them around the house where you usually encounter them. You can also get a spray bottle and add 10 to 15 drops of peppermint and water. Just spray around the house where they tend to sneak in.
