I’m Drinking Cat Poop? What?
by Hannah Keeley
I was at church the other day and a fellow coffee connoisseur and I were discussing really, really good coffee. I told him I loved my organic Sumatra beans because you get the real coffee flavor and nothing tainted by chemicals. He gave me a sideways glance and said, “So, you like good coffee?”
I immediately responded, “Absolutely!”
Without hesitation, he said, “I’m going to bring you some coffee next week.”
Sure enough, the very next week, he came walking into church with a golden five-pound bag of beans and placed them in my hands. As I examined the bag, I noticed there were no markings on it. He placed his hand on mine and looked in my face, “You want good coffee? Try this and let me know what you think.”
As it so happened, the next morning, I totally ran out of coffee, so I opened the golden bag and ground up the beans. The aroma filled the kitchen and in no time, I was enjoying the most delicious cup of coffee I had ever tasted in my life.
The next Sunday, I practically body-slammed him when I walked into church. “Where did you get that amazing coffee?” I asked. “And where can I get some more of it?”…
“I got it in Indonesia while I was there on missions,” he replied. “And there’s a funny story to that coffee. There is a type of cat in Asia that eats the best coffee beans. The workers then gather its droppings and use those beans for coffee.”
“Wait a minute!” I shouted. “Was that Kopi Luwac coffee?”
“Sure is!” he said, with a mischievous smile on his face. I had only heard about Kopi Luwac coffee. It was way too expensive for me to even consider buying. A 1-pound bag is a flippin’ $400 dollars! And here I had been drinking this stuff like it was water!! Cat poop or no cat poop, that coffee is the best stuff on the planet! If I had known I was holding a bag worth about $2000, I wouldn’t have treated it like it was Folger’s. I would have set it aside for special occasions or something. But I was guzzling down that stuff each morning!
It reminded me of what a priceless treasure we have within our grasp every minute of the day. Each one of us has the Word of God at our disposal. It is a priceless treasure, indeed! Just pause for a moment and read these verses from Proverbs:
“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.” Proverbs 3:13-18
So, what is this wisdom that is so priceless? It’s the Word of God. It is the source of all wisdom and it’s right there for the taking. It doesn’t cost $400 a pound. It’s worth so much more than that. And it’s ours–FREE! When that guy at church handed me that bag, he wasn’t expecting me to pay him a cent. And that’s just what God is doing. He has given us His Word as a free gift and a promise to go along with it. If we follow it, then we will be blessed. It’s that simple.
People go through their lives confused, frustrated, and overwhelmed…not even realizing that the answer to every problem is right there in that book. Don’t set it aside for special occasions–Sunday morning, or when you’re totally desperate. Use it every single day! Brew it up and guzzle it down. It’s a treasure that will bless you more than you con comprehend! Did this message bless you? I sure hope so! If so, would you share it on Facebook? Who knows who you may bless today!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
