If At First You Don’t Succeed

By Meggan Larson

Many of you know (but some of you may not) that I’ve been doing the Trim Healthy Mama plan for almost 4 years now. When I started out I didn’t understand what I was doing and ended up gaining 10lbs. Whoops! I stuck with it though and got on plan 100% for the next 4 months and lost 30lbs. I got pregnant afterwards and was so nauseous that I wasn’t really on plan for the next 9 months. My son was born 7 weeks early so eating right was the last thing on my mind. Once we got home from the hospital and my life settled down again I got back on plan and lost 60lbs over the next 12 months.

Then I messed up again…

I got a little cocky and thought that I would be okay eating a little bit of sugar while I was on vacation. I wasn’t okay. That led to a binge of about 6 months where I gained back 30-40lbs. Yikes. On new year’s day of this year I re-committed to THM and lost 20lbs the first few months. Then I started to get off track again and started slowly gaining the weight back. I was frustrated, humiliated, and ashamed. I knew that I didn’t want to stay this size so I picked myself back up again and started a workout program and started tracking my calories because if I’m honest I have a really hard time sticking to portion sizes and the freedom of THM is actually too much freedom for me at this point in my life. So please don’t take this article as me telling you that you need to count your calories, you don’t. It’s just what I needed to do to keep myself on track and get a hold of my binging. I lost a whopping 6 pounds last week! I did have a few cheats and I’m okay with that because I stayed within my calorie range and there was absolutely no guilt for me which is a first.

The point I’m trying to make is that we all mess up. Some of us (ahem me) more than others. It doesn’t matter how often or how badly you mess this up as long as you keep getting back up and giving it your best again. You’re going to keep messing up, that’s life. But you don’t have to stay there. You don’t have to give up on yourself. The path to success is not a straight line; not by a long shot. It’s up and down, backwards and bumpy.

Don’t ever give up on yourself, you are worth pushing through the failures. And one last thing – you are NOT your failures. That number on the scale is just a number. It doesn’t represent you and it doesn’t define you. You don’t have to stay there if you don’t want to. So brush yourself off, read up on THM to refresh yourself, and get back on that horse. It’s not about how many times you fall. As long as you get back up more times than you fall then you’re golden.

Let’s do this!

So may i ask how many calories you are allowing yourself?

      Hi Laura!

It varies with how much exercise I do but I think it’s set for me to lose 2lbs/week and gives me an allowance of about 1220 calories if I do no exercise whatsoever. As I workout and walk during the day that increases usually by an amount between 300 – 900 calories.

      Hope that helps!
