I Messed Up
Suzie Eller
You love Christ with all your heart, but you’ve messed up.
It’s not the size of it; but that it makes you wonder if this faith life is even possible. Or is it just for perfect people who seem to have it all together?
Sometimes sin is a taboo topic, but I’m not sure why. It messes with our lives and knocks us off course, even when our heart longs to be knitted with God’s.
So, what do we do about it?
In Psalm 69:5, King David stood in the wilderness and cried out, “Oh God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you.”
David, despite what others believed or thought about him, longed for intimacy with God. So much so that he went right to the Source. He didn’t pull punches or try to hide from God. He just put it out there, right where it could be seen.
When I fall short, I may feel like running the other way, but that’s when I am reminded that worshiping and following God has nothing to do with my own worth.
Instead, it has everything to do with His. I can walk in to His presence with my heart troubled, but walk out with a fresh beginning.
What about those who had a front row seat to your mistake? You may have to prove to people that you’ve changed, and that’s often a part of the growth process. But your God? Your sin has been reframed. He saw it, but now it’s covered in His grace.
But Suzie, this hurts. I wanted to do better, be better…
I hear your heart, and I know what it’s like because I’ve been there. We all have.
But will you turn toward that gentle “nudge” from a Savior who reaches for you, who longs to redeem your life, who has everything you need to live a life of purpose and direction?
Like David, be real about it with God, and then grab hold of His grace and then go live as the strong woman of faith you are becoming.
