Hungry + Angry = Hangry

Hungry + Angry = Hangry

by Meggan Larson

Life can be chaotic. My daughter just turned 5 and my boys are 3 & ½ and 1 & ½. I understand how busy life can get! Sometimes it can seem like following the Trim Healthy Mama plan takes too much prep work and if you’re as disorganized as I am, then you probably don’t spend one day per week prepping your meals for the following week. Hah! Don’t make me laugh. That might happen once a year. There are times that you just need a shortcut, and the good news is, they exist!

I’m the type of person that…

…gets “hangry”. You know, so hungry that you turn into a complete grump and no one wants to be around you? I often need to apologize for things I’ve said when I’ve been “hangry”. For this reason, I do my best to ensure that I always have easy snacks/meals around because sometimes we just don’t have the time to prep. Sometimes the baby is screaming, the toddler is peeing on the floor alongside the dog who is also peeing on the floor, and you realize that your 5-year-old has been too quiet for too long and there is now a flood in the bathroom. In these moments I can’t think about prepping a meal, I need to eat NOW.

Thankfully there are plenty of super quick on plan options. Quest bars are some of my favorite go to’s when I’m in a pinch. I usually have an “emergency” one in my purse. Thirsty? Have a can of Zevia! It’s on plan and delicious – also comes in many flavors! My favorite one is grape (I was always a grape crush kind of girl). Snacky? Try a triple zero yogurt or a piece of fruit with a small handful of almonds. Need a quick lunch? Heat up a can of light Progresso soup. The whole thing is a FP! (Be sure to stay away from the cream ones).

There are times in our lives that we are so busy, staying on plan seems nearly impossible. You are not alone mama! Stock up on some of those on plan convenience foods that will get you through that unexpected situation. Whatever you do, don’t let yourself get “hangry”. Though I’m sure it’s on plan, eating crow just doesn’t taste that good.
