~Trim & Healthy Mama Quick Tip~
How I lost 60lbs in a Year on Trim Healthy Mama
by Meggan Larson
I was chatting with a friend of mine the other day and she was having such a hard time sticking to THM and pulling herself out of her depression. I’m sure you know the one. It’s where you stuff your face full of junk all the time because you’ve given up hope that you’ll ever actually lose the weight. It’s not a fun place to be. She told me that I was such an inspiration and I realized that I’ve never just laid out all of the steps I took to drop this weight (and keep going). It wasn’t just the book.
The book is amazing and the plan is totally doable but I had the book for 5 months before I lost a pound. There were three things that helped me go from having & reading the book to actually implementing what I read and it’s time I share those things with you…
The first was the book Made to Crave. I’ve talked about this book before and I will likely do it again because it was one of the main keys to getting me on track. I read it over a week that I was on vacation with my family and it just really hit home. I’m a Christian woman and I love Jesus, but for some reason I was thinking that my battle with weight and my walk as a Christian were separate; they aren’t. That book changed my perspective from only wanting to lose weight in order to look good, to needing to lose weight because it was honoring to God and instead of stuffing my face with junk, I should be stuffing my face with Him (ok, that didn’t come out exactly the way I thought it would but you get the point). THM gave me the how to lose the weight, Made to Crave gave me the reason why that I was actually going to stick to.
The second thing that helped me lose the weight was joining a no cheat challenge group on Facebook. It’s led by an amazing THM admin (Jennifer Griffin) and just having the accountability of a group that was doing THM 100% was so incredibly helpful to me. I knew that everyday I was going to have to admit if I had cheated and I didn’t want to have to so I just didn’t cheat. I needed to be on plan at all times because I’ve always had a hard time sticking to things and I needed to stick to this.
The third thing that helped me was meal planning. It was not something I wanted to do. Meal planning takes me HOURS to finish and it’s just not on my list of fun things to do in a day. If I could have just plugged into a meal plan that was already done for me and was THM compliant, like the ones The Laundry Moms provide, then I would have jumped ALL over that. Unfortunately I didn’t know of anything like that at the time so I had to meal plan on my own. I planned every single meal, snack, and dessert to ensure that I was never left wondering what the heck I was going to make for dinner at 4:45pm. It was the only way that I knew I would stay on track. I even had emergency Quest bars in my purse at all times just in case.
So there you have it. These three things were/are my secret to success (combined with the book obviously). THM + Made to Crave + No Cheat Challenge FB Group + Meal Plans = 60lbs lost in a year for me. I hope that these extra tips are an encouragement to you ~ especially to those of you who have read the book and are still battling with yourself to actually DO what the book tells you to do. You’re not alone mama, I was right there with you. These are the things that helped me and I hope that they help you as well.
As always, I’d love to hear from you so please feel free to email me anytime ~ Meggan@thelaundrymoms.com
