“Holly On Hollywood”
~ Trolls ~
by Holly McClure
Trolls is a colorful adventure inspired by the troll dolls with tall-hair, that first became popular in the 1960’s (yes, I had one too!) The heroine is perky and always happy Princess Poppy (voiced by the equally perky Anna Kendrick) who teams up with grumpy worrier Branch (Justin Timberlake), to rescue her friends from the troll-hungry, ogre-like giants, known as Bergens, who want to eat the trolls. There are chase and escape scenes, colorful characters and a happy ending with a cast of A-list talent, including Zooey Deschanel, Russell Brand, Gwen Stefani and James Corden.
Parents, younger kids are going to love this PG-13 colorful movie…
…because of the cute Trolls with great hair (including one that expels glitter and another that poops cupcakes), there are catchy songs like the classic, “The Sound of Silence”, and lots of singing that moves the story along, including Timberlake’s, “Can’t Stop the Feeling”. Kids will like how the trolls creatively use their magic hair to help them in situations and there’s constant, non-stop action, with positive messages about finding inner happiness, never giving up, and being proud of who you are. Trolls lacks a unique story (it borrows a lot from other movies) but makes up for it with colorful action and catchy tunes that kids will enjoy. In fact, my grandkids liked it so much they made troll Christmas ornaments out of each character!
