*** Editors Note: We love our readers and wanted to share with you an insightful review for the new X-Men:Apocalypse movie. Our very own Holly McClure does a wonderful job each week sharing her reviews to give you wisdom for your family on each film for you to determine if it’s suitable for your viewing audience. In order to help in your discernment we will be adding an icon of a “red flag” to any movies we feel might need extra precaution before allowing your family or children to attend. We value you and your family and we believe it is our responsibility as a voice for the next generation to help make you and your family aware of potential questionable movies that might seem innocent at first glance. Please watch for our red flag icon in the future! ~Angela Rose
X-Men: Apocalypse is about the first mutant, Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) who was the most powerful mutant and worshipped as a god until he was accidentally trapped under the pyramids of ancient Egypt. When awakened thousands of years later, Apocalypse is disgusted with what he finds in the world and along with his “Four Horseman” (Simulating Pestilence, Famine, Death and War) decides to rid the world of mankind and create a new one. It’s up to Professor X (James McAvoy) and his followers, to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind. Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Olivia Munn, Sophie Turner, Evan Peters, Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp, Ben Hardy, Kodi Smit-McPhee and a cast of others also star.
The PG-13 rating is more for mature teens to adults and is not kid-friendly because of super hero action, brief language (1 F-bomb), skimpy clothing, suggested nudity, an intense scene dealing with a death, lots of fight scenes (including a bloody one) with mayhem and violence that all earn the title “Apocalypse”. The CGI is amazing and incredibly realistic (I enjoyed seeing each character’s powers and super-human abilities) and I loved the 80’s soundtrack! There’s dialogue about being as powerful as God, themes about prejudice, hatred, teamwork and accepting others, which are interesting topics to discuss with your young teens. There have been nine X-Men films with Director Bryan Singer delivering four in the X-Men franchise. This one gives us characters with unreal abilities at conflict in a very real universe that will take the audience on an exhilarating ride!
I hope this review helps you to choose your movies wisely!
