Holiday Parties & THM Choices
By Meggan Larson
It’s coming!!! Christmas parties, new year’s events, and celebrations full of love, life, happiness, and…off plan food. Let’s face it, the temptation to go off plan and stuff your face is at an all time high right now. New year’s is around the corner and some of us in the past have used this as an excuse to go all out and get back on track on January 1st. Most of your friends are probably not doing THM with you and so events at their place are likely to be full of off plan treats that tempt you to walk away from your goal for a minute. Doing that can potentially derail your success. I’ve been through this more than I’d like to admit. I was completely on plan 100% for 13 months, lost close to 60lbs, and then decided that I could eat off plan once in a while like other people.
Guess what happened?…
I’m not like “those” people. I can’t just eat one chip. I can’t just have one donut. A tiny taste of something off plan awakes a giant beast within me that must devour everything sweet and tasty in sight. And not just for that day either. It goes on for weeks until I finally commit to getting myself back on plan completely and then it’s an uphill battle of reminding myself where I want to be and how I’m going to get there. If you’re like me, please don’t do that to yourself. There are so many delicious things we can eat on plan that we really don’t have to go off. Tell that voice inside of you that’s screaming for the sugary soda, the sugar laden cheesecake, the bag of chips, the eggnog that only comes out this time of year, etc. to shut it. Want some eggnog? Check out Briana Thomas’ version or Gwen’s version. The cheesecakes in the cookbook are delicious (page 333/334), zevia is on plan and super tasty, you really can find a substitute for most Christmas favorites and if you can’t, well maybe it’s time to get some new favorites. I suggest bringing a few of your THM faves with you to the parties. It saves you from going off plan, you’re not showing up empty handed, and maybe you’ll turn your friends onto THM! Go in with a plan and stay the course. It will be that much easier to continue on track on January 1st than it would be to get back on track. We can do this mama!
