Holding Tight to Your Dreams

What are you dreaming up now? I hope it’s something bigger and better than you have ever imagined before. But, that’s always the easy part, isn’t it? It’s a simple task to get excited when the wind is in your sails and the sun is shining bright.

But when the storms come and the night is closing in, it’s an entirely different story.

Chasing a dream when everything is going in your favor is simply following a whim. Holding on to that dream when all the odds are against you…

Now that’s faith!

Scripture tells us that God, who began a good work in you, will continue his work until is is finally finished (Phil. 1:6). God never gives us a dream without already having the plans and the resources lined up for it to come to completion. When you get that vision from God, He is certainly enough to make it manifest in your life.

Perhaps God has given you a dream, maybe it’s to see your family or your marriage restored, maybe it’s that idea for a new business, or the dream of living debt-free. When you first set out, and that dream was still in the dream phase, it was easy to imagine it and get excited about it. But then you started putting things on paper, putting feet to your dreams, and taking action on it. Chances are, you experienced failure and disappointment. Most of the time, God doesn’t work according to our plans. Sure, He gives us the dream, but how we get there is entirely up to Him. God gives us dreams, not just to change the world, but more importantly to change us as believers. He is growing us, molding us, and testing our faith every step of the way. And more times than not, those dreams He has given us are nothing compared to the abundance He actually has in store for us if we can just hold tight and keep having faith.

He started a good work in you, and He is planning on finishing it. You may be thinking, “but, Hannah, I’m just one person. There’s no way I can do this on my own.” You’re right. You are just one person. But here’s the deal–you’ve got God on your side. And when God says, “yes,” there is no power on earth that can say, “no.” He can do miracles that we can’t even begin to anticipate. And when he sees you stepping forward in faith, even through the dark times when you begin to question if you even have a dream at all, He will move in your behalf.

He gave Joseph a dream of becoming a great and mighty leader. Years and years later, after being sold into slavery and unjustly thrown into prison, God fulfilled that dream and put him in command over all of Egypt. Psalm 105:19 tells us about Joseph: “They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.” Perhaps the Lord is testing your character today. Maybe He gave you the dream of a wonderful marriage but your husband seems so distant or angry. Maybe He gave you the dream of financial prosperity, but the bills just keep on coming. Read this next part very, very carefully:

God had the end in mind when He gave the dream to begin with. He will fulfill your dreams, just like He did with Joseph. He is only limited by one thing–your faith. When Joseph was in chains in prison, He kept hold of his dream. He knew His God was bigger than any prison cell. And God is bigger than any obstacle that is in your path. Hold tight and declare your victory today! God will move mightily on your behalf, and He always finishes what He starts.
