The Hilarious Confessions of a Trim Healthy Mama

After last week’s highly successful article outlining that my portion sizes were perhaps a tad too much (and by tad I of course mean that they were massive), I got to talking with a good friend of mine about the things we’ve done while doing the Trim Healthy Mama plan and it quickly turned into a confessional. I’ve since lost another 2lbs making for a total of 6lbs lost in two weeks so obviously I’m on to something!

After months and months of the scale slowly creeping up, it’s now heading back in the direction I worked so hard to achieve in the first place. So what exactly was I (and let’s face it, many of you) doing that was hindering my success on plan? Here it is in all of its glory.


These are the most notable confessions of some Trim Healthy Mamas…


“I’m sure I’ve eaten an entire cup of whipped cream before.”


“I used to buy cream cheese a dozen at a time for the berry crunch and would eat an entire box mixed together by myself.”


“I used to make the big boy smoothie with ALL cream.”


“I would go to the coffee shop and have them make a cappuccino with all heavy whipping cream and think I was “being healthy”


“I’ve often eaten a whole 500g container of 10% greek yogurt before bed.”


“I regularly eat half a bar of lily’s chocolate even though Pearl says 1/3 of the bar only.”


Ah hah! I’m sure if Pearl and Serene could read this they would have to pick their jaws up off the floor. You see ladies, this is what’s called a lack of self control. When we’re given free reign to eat what we want as long as we don’t mix our fuels, some of us tend to go a little overboard.

Ok, a lot overboard.

I think that when Pearl and Serene wrote the book they assumed that their readers knew what a portion size was and that they would stay within it. That is not the case for everyone. Some of us don’t consider the consequences of drinking an entire cup of cream because it tastes like a McDonald’s milkshake and we’ve convinced ourselves that it’s healthier than what we were consuming before.

While that may technically be true, eating an entire brick of cream cheese in a single sitting WILL expand your waist line no matter how “on plan” it is. So do yourself a favor mama, and learn from our mistakes. Read the back of the container for what a serving size is and stick to it!

Fill your plate with veggies, cut back on the on plan fats, and cut your portion sizes (I cut mine in HALF because they were that big!). This may just be the key you were missing to continue losing on THM. And know that you’re not alone; this is a judgment free zone.
