Healthy Thoughts = A Healthy Life

Healthy Thoughts=A Healthy Life

by Diana Scothorn

I spoke to a client last week who is eighty years of age, and I was commending her on her excellent health. I asked her to share her secret of remaining healthy despite her age and a world pandemic. Without hesitation, she said very matter-of-factly, “That’s easy…I THINK HEALTHY”! I love that! I guess no other explanation was necessary because she ended her answer with that point!

Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” We have to let our thoughts line up with who we aspire to be. If we desire to be healthy, we not only need to work towards our goal; we need to think healthy thoughts!

If you desire to lose weight…

…don’t think about how out of shape and overweight you are; think about how good you will feel when you accomplish your goal and are the size you want to be.

If you’re divorced and want desperately to be married again, don’t think about pain and betrayal; think about the spouse God is preparing for you and how grateful you will be to have someone who will love you the way you longed to be loved!

My sister died of kidney disease at thirty-five and my brother died in a car wreck at twenty-nine years of age. For years if I drove by a car wreck, fear of death and loss would grip me! I would picture my brother in the car and how my mother felt when she was delivered the news of the tragedy. That thought would spiral to an image of one of my children in the car wreck and how I would handle another tragedy. That began a spiral of anxiety followed by sadness and grief. It was not a healthy exercise.

The Word of God says we are to cast down every evil thought that opposes God’s Word. If we think about something that will lead to a negative spiral, we need to delete the thought before it has time to take root in our hearts! “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5.)

The moment a negative thought transpires, reject it.

I’ve learned 3 Simple principles that have trained my thought life.

  1. Reject negative thoughts on the onset.
  2. Replace the negative thought with the positive declaration of God’s promise for my circumstance.
  3. Thank God for His Provision.

When I see a car accident now, I pray for the victim in the car. Then I immediately say, In the Name of Jesus, Your Word says angels surround my children and have charge over them. No weapon formed against my family will prosper. We will live a long and prosperous life and fulfill our God-given destiny! Thank you, Jesus; we are a family without tragedy!!!

We must train our thoughts to line up with what we want for our life! Some of my biggest dilemmas have started with a SINGLE THOUGHT! I would begin to think and analyze a problem in my mind. The more I THOUGHT about it, the more it GREW, and the WORSE it became. The devil knows if he can drop a negative thought in our mind, he can eventually cause a negative spiral in our life. Our life will follow the direction of our thoughts!

It’s essential to watch what we say. However, it is even more important to watch what we think! Our thoughts will eventually work their way into our hearts and spill over into our life.

I love what Joyce Meyer says, “if you don’t want to go to Chicago, don’t get on the train to Chicago.”That simply means if we know what we are thinking will cause us to worry, be anxious, fretful, and gloomy; DON’T GO THERE IN OUR THOUGHTS!!! The best way to take control of our life is one thought at a time!
