Healthy Skin, Happy Mama
by Ashley Knight
There are so many moments I relish and look forward to as a parent. I love watching our daughters learn and grow. My heart overflows when my two-year-old sings and dances. I turn into a mushy blob of tenderness when they play together because they are still so little. On the flip side, there are many things I’m not looking forward to such as dating, hormones, having to let them eat candy at birthday parties and weird ailments like ringworm. I know this is all part of growing up but I’m freaked out by contagious skin issues. This is another reason why I’m so thankful for Young Living’s pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils. The oil that I will be turning to when those strange skin issues come into our home will be…
I had ringworm as a an adult and I was convinced I was going to get it all over my head and have bald spots where it had been, but luckily that didn’t happen. Unfortunately, I didn’t know about essential oils then so it took forever for it to go away. If anyone gets ringworm or athlete’s foot in our home now, I will immediately begin applying tea tree and lavender essential oils. Although it wasn’t ringworm, I recently had an itchy scalp for no apparent reason. I couldn’t see anything on my skin but it was a little burn-y and itchy right at my hairline in the front. Before bed, I applied a few drops of tea tree essential oil directly on my scalp and massaged it in. Although it was an overpowering smell, it quickly took the itching away. A few days after I had this experience, my husband then had itchy scalp too. So he applied tea tree the same way I did and it was quickly gone.
Tea tree essential oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties which make it perfect for treating all sorts of skin issues. I’ve always traveled with it in case of a cut or wound while on an adventure. It’s antiseptic properties make it great for wound care and when combined with lavender oil it can be effective in keeping a wound clean and healing it quickly.
We also like to do things the more difficult way but in our opinion the more fun way by making many of our body care products. Homemade soap and deodorant are two products that we make with tea tree oil. It’s fresh scent and wonderful cleaning properties make it a perfect oil for these purposes.
Whenever someone asks me about selecting an oil to support skin health, I automatically go to tea tree. Here are a couple testimonials where people had amazing experiences with tea tree essential oil.
“Charlie, a business acquaintance, asked me if I knew of anything which might help with his athletes foot, a long-standing condition which has been extremely uncomfortable over 16 years. I suggested he apply Tea Tree Oil directly to the affected part, together with Lavender oil. 10 days later he let me know that his condition was almost clear of the dreaded athletes foot, and has asked me to write up the article on Tea Tree oil in his local magazine, as he feels everyone should have access to therapeutic essential oils.”
Molluscum Contagiosum is one of those childhood skin issues that I’m dreading. Many of our friends’ kids had them in the past and since we put our kids in church childcare, it’s a possibility that one day our kids will have them too. I was excited when I found this testimonial, now I’m a little less scared of this infection.
“My daughter broke out in Molluscum well before I stumbled upon oils. She dealt with this painful bumps for 8 months. Then my son broke out. I was so upset for him since he was only 2. I decided to try Tea Tree oil (5 drops) diluted in Vegetable Glycerin (1 T) and I applied this 2x a day. Within a week the bumps were gone and no new ones have appeared! Needless to say, I dove further into my research on oils and became a distributor soon after! I reported my findings to my pediatrician and he quickly took notes and was excited to share this news since there is no real successful treatment!”
I’m hoping and praying your family’s skin stays healthy and happy by using natural, good-for-you products and essential oils such as tea tree essential oil. If you do come across one of these nasty skin issues, then I hope tea tree’s amazing properties will assist in restoring your skin.
