Heal Emotionally THEN Physically

I was talking to a precious friend last week and we were both in a similar position. Frustrated with our weight, embarrassed because of our height to weight ratio, and disgusted with our lack of progress even though we had self imposed due dates on our results. I am the type of person who verbally (or writtenly…not a word, I know) processes and as I typed out my reply to her I realized that it was some sound advice and that I should not only follow it myself, but also share it with you. Here goes…

Heal Emotionally THEN Physically

We were lamenting over our shared irritation when suddenly I realized that I was not going to get to my goal weight by December 31st of this year which is what I had set as my goal. Instead I decided to celebrate the progress I had made. You see, I’ve gone through a lot of trauma in my lifetime (as so many have unfortunately) and this year has been one of emotional healing for the most part. I have progressed leaps and bounds from where I was at the beginning of the year and I said/typed to my dear friend this:

I’ve been doing so much healing mentally and emotionally that I’ve just realized once that’s taken care of the physical will come. The enemy delights in our revulsion of our physical bodies. But the truth is, a lot of the time our physical bodies are just showing the outward appearance of what’s inside. If we are struggling then it’s going to show. That’s not the case for everyone but certainly it is for me.

I don’t know if that resonates with you or not but I wanted to share it because sometimes we can get so caught up in our physical journey that we miss the massive progress we’re making in another area. As hard as it is to accept, sometimes it’s more essential to heal in another area before our physical bodies will allow us to lose the weight. So here’s to you on your journey whether it’s physical, emotional, spiritual, or otherwise. Work on healing yourself from the inside out and that my friend, will yield lasting results.
