Have You Broken the Law?
by Hannah Keeley
Forget about all the rules and regulations, there is really only one law that needs to be in effect. If we follow this law, everything else just flows. If we break it, all hell breaks loose (literally).
And, guess what, we’re all guilty. We’ve all broken this law at one time or another and suffered the consequences.
Jesus had just hours left with his disciples, one last chance to impart the crucial wisdom they would need to face the inevitable challenges and obstacles that lie ahead of them. And what were these last words?…
“This is My commandment: that you love one another [just] as I have loved you,” John 15:12.
It’s really not that complicated–love. Love fixes everything. Love overcomes every obstacle and heals every hurt. Love is theMIRACLE CURE for the pain, the suffering, the anxiety, and even the fear. Jesus knew this. He understood how important it is to love and tried desperately to get His followers to understand that as well.
This is the law==to love one another just as Jesus loved us. How did Jesus love us? Without measure or judgment! He didn’t put an expiration date on His mercy or a limit on His love. It was just how He lived. He lived in love. He walked in it, talked in it, and let it steer Him in every single decision He made.
Don’t be fooled. The world will throw a thousand “fixes” at you, but there’s only one true cure for the hurt in this world, and it’s love. Think about how this applies to you.
Where do you hold resentment right now? Love will fix it.
Where do you direct anger right now? Love will fix it.
Where do you carry guilt and shame right now? Love will fix it.
My sister and I were talking about this the other day and how really and truly, it’s such a simple concept. If we can just operate by this law, everything else is a no-brainer. Love takes care of it all. Jesus wanted us to know this, not necessarily because we needed to learn to love, but because He understood the abundant lives we live when we operate in love. That’s how God set it all up–whatever you want more of, you gotta give away first. Jesus wanted His disciples to be blessed! That’s why He kept knocking them over the head with this one simple truth! Do you want more love? Then give love. That’s where it all begins.
When we step out of command and break this law, then all hell breaks loose–literally! The enemy wants to steal, kill, and destroy, and he gets his claws into your life by pulling you out of love. Don’t do it! Refuse to step out of love. Do not hold anger, resentment, bitterness, hurt, guilt, shame. Bask in your Father’s love and let love guide every single decision to make.
Follow this law. You’ll never regret it
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
