Guarding Your Mind

You ever have those weeks you wish would just disappear from your memory never to be thought of again? I had one of those weeks last week. It was bad. I mean like REALLY bad. I learned some things I wish I never knew and as a result, I felt weak. The self-control I’d had over the last year was suddenly nowhere to be found. I knew I had candy in my office for the gift bags I often make for people and guys, I didn’t even hesitate. I marched down those stairs and I ate a bunch of candy. It was almost like I was punishing myself for things I should just let go.

There were a few things I took away from that experience and I want to share them with you…

Guarding Your Mind

The first is that I was happy my binge didn’t last beyond like 7 candies. In the past, I would’ve eaten the entire container and went looking for more. The second is that I didn’t beat myself up over it. I just accepted what happened and the choices I made and I moved on. That’s a lot of growth for someone who previously would have practically fallen into a depression over eating a few candies. The third thing I want to share with you is that I would have done better if I had guarded my mind. I knew that it was bothering me but instead of dealing with it I just tried to stuff it down. Those are old patterns and I’m not interested in falling into bad habits again.

The fact is, I can’t control how anyone else feels or thinks about me. And sometimes family is the most critical and mean and they do it under the guise of love but it’s really just judgment. We get to choose whether we receive that judgment or not. Last week I obviously received it and as a result, I started walking out the failure some people think of me as.

Not this week.

The last thing I want to share with you is that experience is the weight. In the past I would’ve beaten myself up and said things like “Ugh now I’m going to gain 5lbs overnight” or “great, that was for sure a 6 or 7lb binge”. Not this time. I knew it wouldn’t set me back too much because I’ve dealt with so many things over the last year and I’ve been restoring my health with essential oils and oil infused supplements and guess what? I lost a pound and a half. I’m not suggesting you go binge on candy (obviously) but I used to believe that if I went the slightest bit off plan that I would gain all the weight back and that’s the pattern I was stuck in.

We HAVE to guard our minds.

If you think to yourself that you’re going to gain a bunch of weight for eating an off plan meal then guess what? You’re going to gain a bunch of weight for eating an off plan meal. Don’t let the opinions of others get into your head and make you feel like you’ll never amount to anything. Leave that opinion in the trash where it belongs. You’ve got this and if you need someone to believe in you ~ you just found her. I believe in you 100% and together we’ll get to where we want to go.
