Guard The Good Or It’s Gone
by Hannah Keeley
This past Sunday afternoon we got home from church and I immediately went into the kitchen to make some quesadillas for my family. I was on a roll…making one bean, cheese, and spinach quesadilla after the other. Yep, I was a cooking machine! One by one, I stacked them up on a couple of plates. I went through two whole bags of tortillas! Every now and then, when the kids ran through the kitchen, they would grab the scissors and slice up a quesadilla and chow down.
I finally finished making a huge stack of them, and they looked delicious. I couldn’t wait to dig in! But, first I had to get something done. So, I grabbed a cup of coffee and went to my computer to place an order to a Christmas gift.
Minutes later, when I returned to the kitchen…
I thought for a moment that one of my kids had packed up the rest of them and stuck them in the fridge (silly me!).
They had snatched up every last, stinkin’ quesadilla! There were none left for me. That’s NONE! Zippo! Nada! I was stuck with leftover lentil soup. It was good, too, but I really had my heart set on one of those quesadillas. Looking back, I should have never turned my back on those delicious quesadillas.
I learned two very valuable lessons that day…
One, it’s perfectly okay to hide delicious food from your kids. In a large family, it becomes “survival of the quickest.” Grab your goodies and eat ’em or stash ’em. No room for guilt, sorry.
Two, anything good in your life has to be guarded with diligence. This is true for quesadillas, money, wisdom, marriages, whatever. If you are a believer, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your savior, then I have some news for you: You have an enemy. His name is Satan; and he is just as real today as he was when he was cast out of heaven. And his anger hasn’t diminished a single bit. Here me now–He is out to get you. He has come to steal, kill, and destroy, and he’s really good at what he does.
But here’s the kicker–WE HAVE ALREADY DEFEATED HIM THROUGH JESUS CHRIST! We don’t need to be afraid of him, but we do need to be aware of how he works. Whenever something good is sown into your life, Satan will immediately come along to snatch that seed out of the soil so it can’t take root.
This past weekend, we held an incredible online event–The Moms & Money Summit. It was incredible! Awesome wisdom was doled out. Good seed was sown into the lives of a lot of women. But I can only imagine what happened the next day. The enemy probably dropped several new bills in their mailbox or made some overdraft charges show up. That’s how he works. As soon as a seed is sown, he’ll try to snatch it before it can take root. You start believing for a decluttered home, and the washing machine breaks so all the laundry piles up. You start believing for a healthy marriage, and your husband comes home in a rotten mood.
Don’t believe the physical circumstances! Understand what is really going on! See it with spiritual eyes. The reason Satan is trying to snatch that good seed out of your life is because HE KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU GUARD IT AND LET IT TAKE ROOT! He’s not stupid. He knows if you stay in faith, believing the message you received from God, even when you can’t see any results, that faith will grow and yield a harvest in your life.
He may be the deceiver, but that does not mean you have to be deceived. Be smart and keep going. One step after the next. Believe in the dark what God told you in the light and GUARD THAT SEED.
Now what you do with those quesadillas is entirely up to you!
So, what about you? Have you experienced this in your life? Share it and let me know. I want to stand by you in faith, believing what God has planted in your heart. And if this message has blessed you, then keep the blessing going by sharing it on Facebook. I love you, Mama!!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
