“Growing Out of Your Comfort Zone”
by Hannah Keeley
It’s that time of year…time to do the old switch-a-roo with the kiddos’ seasonal clothes.
I remember last year, when it first started getting cold. I pulled boxes out of the basement and then went digging through them to find out which items fit which kid. When I went to try on some of Klara’s old clothes on her, not a single item fit! Every pair of pants were about three inches too short and they couldn’t even button.
The sweaters she loved so much last year couldn’t even stretch down to her waist. I had no idea how much she had grown. Out of two boxes of clothes, the only thing she could wear was a pair of stretchy velour pajama pants. And I could only pass those off because they fit like capris! That girl has some seriously long legs.
It reminded me of how much growing and stretching we do when we are…
…living by faith. God wants to pour so much abundance in our lives, but first he had to stretch us so He can pour it all in. The stretching doesn’t always feel good. We are so conditioned to walk by sight and not by faith, that it is a constant growing process.
We have to show discipline–discipline to speak with positive words when deep inside we are tempted to grumble, discipline to tithe when we don’t know where the next money is going to come from, discipline to show diligence in our work instead of neglect. Every moment of every day, we make choices. Those choices can keep us in a rut or they can help us grow and stretch to receive more of God’s goodness.
Jesus talked of pouring wine into wineskins. He explained that no one would ever pour new wine into old wineskins because it would cause the wineskins to burst. God will never pour new blessings into old thinking. We have to stretch our faith and expand our thinking. Start thinking positive thought about your future. Speak favor over your life. Expect great things for your family. When our faith grows, so do our blessings.
God wants to do a new thing in your life, but you have to get rid of the old thinking. He says, “See? I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:19). No matter where you are in life today, God wants more for you. He is doing a new thing! The stretching doesn’t always feel good, but it is necessary if you are ready for the blessings He has in store for you. Don’t get frustrated when you are challenged. Get excited! God is stretching your life to hold more of His blessings!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
