Grace in the Wilderness
by Diana Scothorn
I have found that in my most challenging seasons, God’s GRACE was the most evident. In the times I had nothing left, I gave it all I had.
In the moments, I felt like giving up, God carried me through. The Word of God says, in Jeremiah, that the people who survived the sword found GRACE in the wilderness.
So many times, I have survived coming out of a challenging season to find myself in the…
…wilderness.
The wilderness is wild and uncultivated territory. It is desolate in comparison to a big open sea.
It is two uncomfortable settings together, desolate, yet big and vast like the sea! When you look into the ocean, it can be overwhelming. Often time the wilderness appears to be so overwhelming that you see NOWHERE to BEGIN and NO WAY to FINISH!
It was in these times in my life where all I could see was “barren land” and nothing else around me —and I have pressed to see Jesus! It’s in the wilderness seasons that God begins to work on our hearts. When we feel empty He fills us up with His unconditional love.
God shows us He is FOR US in the fruitful season and WITH US in the wilderness seasons! His love has no boundaries.
The word says in Isaiah that He will make rivers flow in the barren land. He will cause springs within the valleys and turn the desert into pools of water and the parched dry grounds into springs.
That scripture ends by saying, joy and gladness will be found and the sound of singing. When we know God’s not only with us, He knows the way out, we have a heart of thanksgiving!
The Grace of God will GO where we are, and be there WAITING in our time of need. In my wilderness seasons, I learned not only who I am, But Who He Is! It’s the times I felt bare and empty that Jesus filled me up!
God’s Grace is here today to make rivers in the dry places. No matter where we may be, how we got there, or why it happened, God’s Grace is waiting!
