Good to the Last Drop

Good to the Last Drop!

By Terri Bonin

Essential oils are one of the best investments you can make into your health. They have the ability to calm you down when you need to take a breather, they can positively affect your mood, naturally, support your immune system, relieve cough and cold symptoms, naturally support your hormones and endocrine system, etc etc. The list really does go on and on. But how do you ensure that you’re maximizing the investment you’ve made into the health of you and your family?

Storing essential oils properly can make a huge difference in how long they last and how potent they are. When you keep the lid on tightly it prevents oxidation, air, or water from getting inside the bottle. That keeps the oil pure the way Young Living intended (yes I only use and recommend Young Living essential oils). Less contact with air allows the oils to retain their properties. If you constantly leave the bottle open, the air can alter consistency, smell and the properties of the oils not to mention keeping the lid tightly closed prevents the oil from evaporating!

Keeping your oils out of direct sunlight and excessive heat can help maintain the purity of the oils as well. It’s best to keep them stored in a cool dark place if possible like a closet or drawer.

Keeping your on the go oils in a carrying case will keep them from bumping each other and possibly cracking.

Make sure you keep the oils in the glass bottles they came in. If you store essential oils in plastic they are so potent that they will leach and dissolve the plastic. You don’t want that! Also, you want to make sure that you store them in dark bottles to protect them from light. Keep that in mind when you’re making DIY recipes.

Avoid putting your essential oils in the freezer as you want to avoid extremes like too hot or too cold. They really do work best at room temperature.

Now that you know how to properly store your essential oils, you can rest assured that you will be able to use every drop! There is so much goodness in each bottle of essential oil that I know you’re going to want to make sure you don’t waste any. I  hope this helps!
