God Will Redeem Your Mistakes
by Hannah Keeley
It was the most humiliating experience of my life. I couldn’t believe I was standing there in court, feeling like a total loser in front of the judge. How did my life come to this moment?
Just a few years earlier, we were on fire. We had an awesome idea for a business and we were plugging away at it. Little did we know at the time that it takes a little more than an awesome idea to build a business. As the months went by, expenses piled up and profits were, well, nonexistent. We began living off of credit cards, borrowing from one to pay off another. Finally, everything was maxed out, we were stressed out, and our business had fizzled out. We didn’t know where to turn.
Out of sheer desperation, we turned to bankruptcy.
I could hardly believe it…
We had been so on fire just a few years earlier, and now here we were, standing in the middle of bankruptcy court, feeling like total losers. It was beyond humiliating. It was demoralizing and tore every bit of confidence and dignity out of my spirit. We walked out of there feeling like total scum.
At that point, I truly didn’t see how we would ever get our mojo back. I thought our fire had been put out for good. We just didn’t have what it takes. We weren’t the “lucky ones.”
I was so wrong.
First of all, we all make mistakes. We were stupid. We went into a huge project with no knowledge, no wisdom, and no support. Also, we started something that God had never told us to begin. It was OUR great idea, not HIS. And God is never required to bless something that He does not ordain in the first place.
But, like I said. We all make mistakes. Some small, some big, and some that make us feel like total losers. It could be years spent in a failed relationship, money lost on a business scheme, health deteriorated during years of neglect. But, God is our Redeemer. He is the One who can make crooked paths straight and rough places smooth. As bad as it can get, God can make it better.
But secondly, at the time we thought bankruptcy was our only option. We thought all our efforts culminated in one big failure. Man will always have a solution to your problems, and it may seem to make total sense. But foolish problems never get better with foolish solutions. God is our Rescuer. He is the One with the solutions. And He is not required to tell you how He will do something. He just promises to do it. His way, in His time. We thought we had no other option. Little did we know that God had everything we needed to right all the wrongs.
But here’s some awesome news…it can’t get too bad for God to make good again. God is our Restorer. He miraculously restores the years, the money, the health. He renews it when we totally and completely depend on Him and do things His way.
It was totally humiliating to have judgment passed on me in bankruptcy court. I don’t ever want to go back to that moment in my life. And, thank God, I don’t have to. His Word says, “There is now NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Isn’t that amazing news? Jesus took ALL the curse for us. He became poor so we could become rich. He bore our sickness so we could live with health. He took all the sin so we could have all the righteousness. He’s the total package! How awesome is that? You can say goodbye to that inner loser because she doesn’t exist anymore. God took all that judgment and c0ndemnation away. We are no longer who the world says we are, but we are who God says we are!
You can lose, and not be a loser. We’ve all lost at something, but that does not have to define who we are. It’s time to let God define who you are. It says in Psalm 113:7-8, “He picks up the poor from out of the dirt, rescues the wretched who’ve been thrown out with the trash, seats them among the honored guests, a place of honor among the brightest and best” (The Message).
How amazing is THAT? No matter how the world has treated you, or what stupid mistakes you made, God is there to make everything right again. And not just right–better than it ever was before!
Do you ever feel like you’re a loser? Are you ready to believe that God is your Redeemer, your Rescuer, and your Restorer? It’s time to trust Him and grab your seat of honor! Share a comment and let me know what you think! I love hearing from you!

Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
