God Makes His Plans Irresistible
By Rhonda Stoppe
I just stumbled across a blog that I wrote back in January 2013, along with a picture of me holding––for the first time–– a copy of my first book Moms Raising Sons to Be Men.
The post takes me back to the awe and emotions I experienced the day I finally held in my hands the book I worked on for over a year––with the help of my editor. (The man is a saint!)
The article reminds me of how God works to inspire us to do what He has had planned to do through us from before time began.
My January 2013 post read…
GOD’S VISION BECOMES OUR PASSION:
Today I received in the mail the first copy of my new book, Moms Raising Sons to Be Men! Anyone who knows me would agree my gift is teacher and evangelist––I AM NOT A WRITER! I dangle my participles and run on my sentences like nobody’s business! (My poor editor!)
So how did I come to author a book that is selling 1000 copies per month? I’m glad you asked…
As my children grew up and moved away, I began to pray, What’s next Lord? In the stillness of my heart, the Lord continually impressed upon my heart: Write.
My response was always, “I’m not a writer, Lord!”
However, sensing that I should obey this still small voice, I looked into how to publish a book. After much research, I prayed, Lord, You know I don’t want to market myself. I will not push any doors open. I’ll only give You my arm and ask You to drag me thru the open doors if You want me to write books.
Honestly I thought this was my “get out of jail free card” and I tried to put out of my mind the far-fetched idea of writing a book.
Only a few months later, the Lord sent a woman named Cindi McMenamin into my path at a ministers’ wives event where we both were teaching.
After we had lunch together, where I shared a number of stories with Cindi, she reached over and gently grabbed my hand and said, “Rhonda, why are you not a writer?”
I remember pulling my hand away, (a bit startled by her comment) as I told Cindi, “I am not a writer, I am a teacher.”
To which Cindi responded, “Rhonda, writing is just teaching on paper.”
Thru tears I explained my situation. To which Cindi replied, I am going to help you write a book proposal and introduce you to my editor… ” Cindi gave me a copy of her book When a Woman Discovers Her Dream, and encouraged me to step out in faith. The rest is history!
Friends, all I can say is The Lord makes His vision for your life––and mine, IRRESISTIBLE when we learn to love Him, to walk in His Truth, and in OBEDIENCE to Him.
I am in awe of God’s promises; “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will guide you with my eye…The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are open to their cry.” (Psalm 32:8; 34:15)
You are not alone if you have a relationship with Christ. The Lord is faithful to those who are His. I am “confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you WILL COMPLETE IT until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
Since that post my book Moms Raising Sons to Be Men has sold thousands of copies, and continues to grow in popularity as a personal mentor to moms who are raising the next generation of men. And my heart about burst out of my chest when the president of Harvest House informed my husband that the number one place the book is selling is in the secular market. I am truly an evangelist at heart, and there is a clear gospel message in my book. God only knows how many women have learned how to have a relationship with Jesus through the pages of my book!
So, here I am two years later awaiting my next book’s release, IF MY HUSBAND WOULD CHANGE I’D BE HAPPY-And Other Myths Wives Believe (Harvest House Publishers August 2015). All I can say is WOW! The Lord has certainly opened doors I would never have pushed open on my own.
DO YOU HAVE A DREAM?
As you delight in the Lord, is there a still small voice whispering to you in the quietness of your soul? It may not be to write a book. It may be to adopt a child, mentor young mothers who are desperate for direction, pray diligently for the people God impresses upon your heart, or take meals to the elderly who need to hear that Jesus loves them.
God’s timing is perfect so learn to wait on The Lord to do through you what He has planned. And His ways are above ours (see Isaiah 55:9), so don’t try to manipulate circumstances to attempt to make happen something only God can do.
But whatever you do, when God opens a door––walk through it! And remember, if God is impressing upon your heart to do something you are pretty sure you could NEVER do without His help…That may be just the thing God wants you to do!
Learning to live outside of our “safe” little box is where real faith happens! I am reminded of the scripture:
I Corinthians 2:9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
Our job is to LOVE HIM
God’s job is to accomplish through us what He ordained before the foundations of this world (Ephesians 2:10)!
I leave you with two scriptures that have set the course for my life, and helped me become a No Regrets Woman. I hope you too will be inspired by these words, so that one day you will look back at your life with no regrets:
I Corinthians 2:9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him….Hebrews 12:2: Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…”
