A few nights ago I went to bed and snuggled up under the warm covers. My tummy was full of gingerbread and hot cocoa and I thought to myself, “Ah, life is good!” Even when money was really tight for me, I never had to go to bed hungry and neither did my children. They may have gotten sick of bean soup and baked potatoes, but they never had to know hunger. There are so many things in life that we take for granted—a warm bed to sleep in, food on the table, a glass of clean drinking water.
I was out shopping the other day and I saw so many people just mindlessly pulling items from a shelf. Items that people may or may not use, just things to satisfy wants. Maybe this year, instead of just giving items that people will stick in their closets, give something that they can store in their hearts…
There are people everywhere who are truly in need. They will never know the joy of a warm bed at night or gingerbread in their tummy. They have to see their kids go hungry for days on end. They walk miles for buckets of contaminated water. This year, give a gift that can change lives.
One of my favorite charities, King’s Ransom, has many organizations to give where you can make a huge difference. You could be buying a family a goat to provide milk, cheese, yogurt, and fertilizer for gardens, in addition to dairy products to sell at a market. Or you could give a family a couple of chickens to provide eggs for nourishment and extra income. You might be providing clean water for a family to prevent sickness in their village. This week I’m asking you to please do your own giveaway. Please give a gift to a family in need this holiday. It’s not too late. Together we can make a difference!
