Getting Through a Dark Season

Getting Through a Dark Season

by Diana Scothorn

No one wants to admit when they are going through dark seasons. I can recall a season of darkness as a Christian that made me want to disappear.

I tried to run and hide, bringing me into more profound isolation and darkness. I didn’t want anyone to think I didn’t have it all together.

Imagine that. I wanted everyone to think everything was perfect! In reality, it was nothing more than a perfect picture of pride! Looking back, I know it was a…

…seed of deception that birthed pride. I was embarrassed about how “dark” my world had become. I was an emotional mess!

There is a feeling of despair when we go through seasons of darkness, and we feel we have no control. Darkness is the absence or deficiency of light. Satan is the prince of darkness.

When we’re confused, depressed, or lacking in providing solutions for our circumstances, darkness enters to try and consume light. Darkness causes a lack of enlightenment!

The devil’s primary target when we are going through dark seasons is to generate a lack of clarity. He wants us to question why instead of trust God with our why.

It’s challenging to see our solutions in the dark, even if the answer is standing in front of us! The Word says the Lord will enlighten our darkness, and with Him, we can run against an entire army! We can leap over any huge barrier or walk, trying to barricade us in from our answers.

God’s way is perfect, and the word of the Lord is proven and is a shield to those who trust in Him! God is our strength and power! When light enters; darkness flees! God tells us He arms us with strength for the battle!!! He will subdue under our feet those who rise against us! He will deliver us from the striving of people and circumstances!

It’s God who avenges us and suppresses those under us. His Word has power and needs no assistance. God will cause us to conquer and bring into subjection anything or anyone that tries to get us down.

Light overpowers the force of darkness and brings it into subjection to the hand of Almighty God. The light of Jesus will bring us joy and wipe out the darkness of depression!!!

The darkest season in my life is my most remarkable testimony! Everything satan told me would not be; is!!! God Is the Great I Am! Death surrounded me, sickness followed my family, love abandoned me, and lack hovered nearby to haunt me, BUT GOD!

God will not fail us! He’s what we need when we need it. Everything in my life that was stolen has been restored one hundredfold.

Yesterday, I was unable to pay my bills; today, I am debt-free. Yesterday I was betrayed by love; today, I am happily, blissfully married! Yesterday my family was taken by sickness, leaving me alone; today, the fruit of our daughter’s womb has blessed us with eight amazing grandbabies! Yesterday I was fearful of tomorrow; today, I anticipate every moment of every day of the abundant life in front of me!

We may experience dark seasons, but if we continue to go forward with Jesus, we will quickly see this too shall pass, we will begin to see the light shine brightly for our future.
