Geranium, Oh How I Love Thee!
By Terri Bonin
What’s happy smelling and likely to boost your mood as soon as you twist the cap off and take a whiff. Ahhhh isn’t that nice? It’s Geranium! Yes, Geranium Oh How I Love Thee, let me count the ways! This beautiful oil is steam distilled from the flowers and leaves of the Pelargonium Graveolens plant. Try saying that three times fast! Its aroma can encourage feelings of peace and spirituality and it smells very floral which is so nice!
But did you know this little secret…
Geranium oil was used by the ancient Egyptians to help promote beautiful looking skin? HELLO! Yes, please! That’s because it contains a variety of naturally occurring constituents including Limonene, Alpha-Pinene, and Myrcene ~ aka they make ya skin glow!
This is an oil that pairs nicely with oils like lavender, jasmine, orange, or even lemon. You can diffuse them together or wear them on your skin (just be cautious of the citrus oils in the sun cause they can make your skin burn faster). You can give your hair a boost of shine by adding a few drops to your shampoo and conditioner. You can even add it to your DIY perfume or create an air or fabric freshener by combining 1 cup of distilled water, 3-4 drops of Geranium oil, and 1 teaspoon of witch hazel in a glass spray bottle. That’s a super easy way to freshen stuff up!
Add a few drops to your favorite moisturizer to help brighten the appearance of skin or just put some on and smell your way to a better mood. This is just ONE of the oils that are free this month over at Young Living. I absolutely LOVE getting my monthly wellness box and if you’ve never gotten one, it’s time to start now!
