Holly on Hollywood
“Frozen 2”
by Holly McClure

FROZEN 2  continues the adventures of Queen Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel); her kind sister, Anna (Kristen Bell); and her beloved snowman, Olaf (Josh Gad). The story begins with a young Elsa and Anna getting a bedtime story from the king and queen, telling about a magical enchanted forest and the indigenous people of Northuldra. Flash forward to the present, Elsa hears a voice calling to her that only she can hear, Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) tries to propose marriage to Anna but she’s too busy to notice. When Arendelle is partially destroyed by the mysterious elemental spirits of air, water, fire, and earth, the four go on a journey to find the long-hidden forest, get answers about the strange voice calling to Elsa and answers on how to save their beloved kingdom.

This is a PG family-friendly sequel, but little ones younger than 4 may be restless during certain scenes and songs. The plot starts with Elsa and Anna as children but soon the characters are going on a dangerous journey to an enchanted forest. There are several scenes with characters fighting in battle with swords (but nothing graphic), chases, and a couple of characters who escape death. The sisters learn about their parent’s deaths and backgrounds. Elsa must figure out how to use her powers to save Arendelle and restore peace to their parent’s village. Olaf is hilarious and adds laughter to every scene.  And of course, the big musical numbers are impressive with “Into the Unknown”, featuring Menzel’s impressive voice. Positive messages about sisterhood, empowerment, acceptance, tolerance, perseverance, true love and a promise to protect others in their kingdom. Anna and Elsa are examples of strong women and sisters who love each other. Kristoff gets his moments of maturity, manhood and a hilarious song with animals. Frozen 2 is an epic adventure and the perfect sequel that will recapture the older hearts who adored the first one – and gain a new audience of little ones ready to belt out the popular songs….for the next few years!
