Forgive Yourself
By Meggan Larson
New year’s eve is less than two weeks away and with it comes reflection. Reflection on the past year and the resolutions you didn’t achieve. Hopefully you have some that you did accomplish but if you’re like me, you haven’t reached your goal weight yet and that can leave a lot of frustration in your heart. That can lead to depression, anger, overeating, etc.
There’s only one sure way to get back on track and move forward and that is…
You need to forgive yourself. Un-forgiveness leads to a lot of problems. It weighs you down physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It sabotages all of your efforts, constantly reminds you of your failings, and leads to you sobbing over a pint of ice cream shouting at yourself that you’ll always be fat. Or something like that, not that I’ve ever been in that situation…ahem.
Forgiveness is the key to everything. When you forgive yourself you release yourself to make different choices. You get off the rollercoaster of self-hatred and start walking the bumpy and windy path of regaining your health. You WILL fall again, that’s life. But as my favorite coach Dani Johnson always says “don’t pitch a tent and die there”. Get back up, make a different choice, and forgive yourself every single time you mess up. Forgiveness is not a one time thing, it’s an every day thing. Don’t hold this against yourself anymore. You were never meant to carry this burden. There is one who literally died to take that burden from you and His birthday is in a few days. Let Him carry the burden for you.
Stop listening to the voice that’s telling you that you can’t do this, you’ll never do this, and you’ll always struggle with this. There is freedom for you in Christ. Receive that freedom today and have a very Merry Christmas!
ps…As always I’d love to hear from you so if you have any questions or comments please comment below or email me at Meggan@thelaundrymoms.com
