Forget Picture Perfect!
by Hannah Keeley
You ladies know by now that I don’t do things perfectly. But I do get them done. After all, moms have a lot to do. If we set super high standards, then we’re going to drive ourselves crazy and take our families along with us!
There’s a better way.
But, before I get to that let me remind you that we are deep cleaning and de-cluttering Zone 2 this week. Now, on to our special project this week…
and a confession…
I am TERRIBLY behind in my scrapbooking (to the tune of two years!). Now that a new year is here, I need to get crackin’ on one of my resolutions which is to CATCH UP! I have to do one year the old fashioned way because I have all the pictures filed away. But for the last year, I’m going all digital, mama. I’m doing it on Shutterfly and cutting my time in half.
But whatever way you create your memory books, the most important thing is that you need to GET IT DONE! These are your family archives and they are so important. The kids will look back on them and one day, when a hush has fallen over your home, you will even get them out and relive the “good ole days.” So, quick dragging your feet and let’s get to it!
I have seen a lot of scrapbooks; and every time I see a crafty, fabulous, drool-over scrapbook, I always feel that tinge of jealousy and inadequacy. Jealousy that I want scrapbooks that look as good as theirs; and inadequacy because mine don’t look nearly so extravagant. But, really there’s no reason to get my underwear all wadded up over a scrapbook.
If you’re feeling a bit challenged in the area of scrapbooking, keep this in mind–you do not have to create a work of art. You just have to show memories. When people look back at your family’s scrapbooks, they are not going to be oohing and aaahing over your cool borders or neat font styles. They are going to be wrapped up in “remember when…”
This week, all you have to do as your special project is to collect all of those pictures and files that you have stored away and just organize them by month and year. That’s it. Nothing else.
If you have physical photos, get a storage file with 12 big folders and begin dropping them in. If they are digital files, then just organize them by month. I set up an account on Shutterfly and organized them all by month. It was so easy–and that’s coming from a person who is electronically-challenged!
And the best part? After I finally kicked my bee-hind into gear and got started, I found out it was actually FUN!
C’mon, don’t go into the new year with your memories scattered all over the place. Let’s get things in order!

Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
