Food Prep: The Bane Of Your Existence Or The Key To Your Success?

“Food Prep”

The Bane Of Your Existence Or The Key To Your Success?

By Meggan Larson

We’ve all heard of those super peppy people who spend their entire Sunday cooking from dawn to dusk in order to have their meals prepped for the upcoming week. I’ll just go right ahead and say that I am not one of those people. I have three small children, I homeschool, I attempt to keep my house looking semi decent, and on the weekends when I actually have my husband home to help with the kids I am most certainly not spending 50% of that time in the kitchen. That being said, planning out your meals is one of the biggest keys to your success with weight loss.

So how in the world can you do it if your personality is more like mine than peppy Patricia’s?

Food Prep

Snacks. Lots and lots of snacks. Make them easy too. Veggies & dip, apples with a small handful of nuts (literally 8 almonds to keep it in E territory), hard boiled eggs, on plan meat sticks, wasa crackers & laughing cow cheese, you get the idea.

I like to have a lot of healthy and on plan options available in the house (sweet and salty) to ensure that when hunger strikes, I have a plan instead of snacking on something that’s going to make me fat and make me feel a world of regret afterwards.

I like to keep things simple for dinner often opting for some kind of meat and pairing it with something easy like veggies, rice, sweet potatoes, or salad. The night before I take out what I need to take out of the freezer and let it defrost overnight. I marinate it in the morning so it can sit all day and don’t worry about it until later.

In the meantime I eat as I’m hungry and because none of it takes a long time to prep I can keep it under 10 minutes which is really important when my 2 year old takes after Houdini and likes to get into every possible thing he shouldn’t. I don’t have a lot of time during my day and with the time I do have, I’m pretty wiped and just want to relax with my love.

Food preparation can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be but one thing is for sure ~ it’s absolutely essential to your success. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail after all. So plan to succeed and make it a good week!
