I’ve been talking a lot about the importance of goal setting and breaking down said goals into weeks in order to determine exactly what you need to do this year in order to reach your goal. I’ve been using the passion planner to do this and it’s been going super super well. I knew it was good advice, not to toot my own horn or anything, but I didn’t realize just how good it was until this past week…

Flip The Switch

I lost 3lbs the first week of January which was one and a half pounds more than I needed to lose to stay on track so I was absolutely thrilled. Then I went to a girls weekend and indulged in a lot of crossovers and probably more heavy S meals and snacks than necessary. When I got back on the scale I was up half a pound from the week before and I started to get discouraged. Then I started trying to do the math of how many pounds I had lost minus the half pound that I gained and wondering how in the world I was going to keep track of that in 6 months. Then all of a sudden I had an epiphany. I don’t need to keep track of all those numbers. Instead, I wrote in my passion planner how much I should weigh each week to stay on track to get to my goal weight by next December. Some weeks I’ll lose a lot, and others I won’t lose anything, but what matters is where I’m at in terms of that number each week. When I thought of it that way I realized I only had to lose another 1/2lb in 5 days to make my weekly goal. That was WAY better than being discouraged about gaining! The fact of the matter is that I’m still on track to get to my goal. It energized me for the week and has kept me making good choices all week long. What a difference in attitude and all I had to do was flip the switch in my brain. I really can’t recommend the passion planner enough. I don’t remember ever having a more productive January. Take it one week at a time and focus on the bigger picture so that you’ll stay encouraged instead of having your emotions resemble a rollercoaster.
