Exercise Is Not A Four Letter Word

Last week I talked about how I kept messing up on the THM plan and going back and forth in my weight (though I haven’t returned or come to close to my original all time high). This week I’m going to tell you about my battle with exercise because I know that a lot of you face the same battle.
Prior to this month I had only ever completed one workout program in my life. I had never stuck through a whole series before. Sometimes it was due to an injury or sickness but a lot of the time it was just due to me giving up on myself or giving myself too much allowance and taking a day off. I had convinced myself that I really disliked exercising and as a result I moved through most of my days like a sloth having long forgotten that I used to adore being active. I could hardly remember a time when I didn’t struggle to walk from my basement to the top floor of my house and I only have half floors! I knew that I wanted that to change but I was avoiding it because I knew what I had to do to make that change. I had to just do it.
The big secret here is…
…that there is no big secret or amazing tip on how to suddenly get into shape other than just starting something and sticking to it. I wish there was a magic pill for all of us but there just isn’t. I started the 21 day fix workout series 17 days ago and I haven’t missed a day. If I make it through the next 4 days then I will have completed a workout series for the first time in almost 10 years. YIKES!
If you’re anything like me then you are incredibly great at starting things like workout videos, but you aren’t fantastic on the follow through. Hey, I get it. I just admitted to not finishing a workout series for a decade! Like I talked about last week though, it doesn’t matter how many times you don’t finish something. What matters is not giving up until you DO finish what you started. I’m already making plans to do another round of the 21 day fix and then start something else afterwards because I know that exercise really needs to be a part of my healthy lifestyle. I’ve gotten away with not exercising for a long time but it’s high time that changes and there’s no time like the present. Now that I’ve gone 17 days working out every day I can honestly say I feel amazing. I have a LOT more energy, I’m sleeping better, I can run up the stairs (okay, maybe not run but walk quickly at least), and I have come a LONG way from the first workout I did and that was less than 3 weeks ago.
