Dry Spell

Dry Spell, hard times, Seeking God, Summer Heat

Well, it happened. The heat of Summer has hit my yard…Okay, okay, my grass has been nothing for a long time (it doesn’t help we don’t have a sprinkler system.) I just like to blame it on the heat.

But, the truth is we all go through dry times in our lives every once in a while, and they are tough for everyone. Perhaps you have been believing for a child to turn around, a financial situation to change, an opportunity to surface. And nothing seems to be happening at all. You may be at that point where you just want to throw up your hands and say, “I give up.”

I am convinced that the more difficult your circumstances, the closer you are to your victory. This isn’t the time you should be giving up. This is the time you should be giving in to God and allowing Him to work through you. Sure, things may seem overwhelming, but God is bigger than any setback and any disappointment. You are closer than you think to getting drenched in God’s favor. You may be looking for the next big break in your own power. But, God has a way of surprising us with His goodness

In Genesis 21, Hagar was sent away into the wilderness with her little baby boy. Abraham strapped a container of water on her shoulders and sent her on her way. She wandered aimlessly until the water was all gone. Lost and alone, she knew death was inevitable, both for her and her child. She placed the baby underneath a bush, burst into tears, and walked away, not being able to bear the trauma of watching her child die. Her darkest hour was upon her and Hagar did a horrible thing–she lost hope. But God was there. He had never left her side for a minute.

Scripture goes on to say, “God opened Hagar’s eyes, and she saw a well full of water” (v. 19). Isn’t that how it is with God? Man supplies a simple container of water, but God supplies a well! Sometimes, we have to go through those dry spells in life so we can truly understand the power and the providence of God.

2 Corinthians 12:9 says that “my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God is always enough for every situation we find ourselves in. Don’t lose hope in those dry spells. I can hear thunder coming and I can feel the pounding of rain upon the ground. God’s favor and goodness is going to rain in your life, as long as He reigns in your life! Put Him first and trust Him to not only carry you through those spells, but to bring you to a place that is even greater than you could have ever imagined!
