Drive-Thru Sue’s Unite!
by Meggan Larson
Honestly I may get some hate mail on this article but here’s the thing; I am a drive-thru Sue. If you’re not sure what that means then you may want to grab a copy of the book Trim Healthy Mama and see if you’re one too. I feel like sometime frankenfoods get a bad reputation as though using them is somehow beneath the people who make their own kombucha or magically get yeast from the air (what IS that??). Some people turn their noses up at Dreamfields pasta (I don’t! And yes I’m fully aware of the drama surrounding them and yes, they’re still on plan, and ain’t nobody gonna take my pasta away from me alright?? Lol), or light Progresso soup, or Halo Top ice cream (where have you BEEN all my life?!). That’s totally okay if you’re someone who would rather stick a pin in your eye than use a microwave I get it, I really do…
Some of us are not quite there yet. We’re working on it, we really are! But we’re not quite at that level of purity (if I may). Sometimes we have a bad week where we are incredibly busy and barely have time to breathe never mind prep a bunch of food. Some weeks we have pasta twice (gasp!), Joseph’s pitas at every lunch, and Progresso soup for 4 dinners that week and you know what? It’s better than the alternative. I would rather eat half a sub from Subway than a big Mac meal at McDonald’s. I would rather have some Progresso soup than order a pizza. It’s not easy to change your entire lifestyle especially if it doesn’t come naturally to you so taking advantage of some of the
It’s not easy to change your entire lifestyle especially if it doesn’t come naturally to you so taking advantage of some of the frankenfoods is a real win for some of us! I’d rather eat a pint of Halo Top than a large blizzard (though the serving size recommended is a ½ cup) because in the end, it’s about making better choices again and again and again. There are some really tasty alternatives and some weeks I do really well and eat a ton of veggies and space my meals properly and drink half my body weight in ounces of water. And other weeks I barely make it through and consider it a real win if I stayed mostly on plan. So if you’re a drive-thru Sue like me throw a fist in the air and give a big shout because YOU are doing the best you can so don’t compare yourself to Kombucha Kate (okay not a real person but you get what I mean)! Celebrate your good choices and don’t let others bring you down.
This is your journey, not theirs.
