Don’t Disappoint Yourself

We all have those times in our lives when everything is going wrong. I mean EVERYTHING. The kids are disobedient, your spouse is driving you crazy, your cat pooped in the middle of the living room, the laundry is piling up, the dishes aren’t done, you lost your best friend, and your dog died. Okay that last bit sounded more like a country song but you get my drift. Somedays there is nothing that is going right and on days like that it is SO tempting to just say ‘forget it’ and go off plan.

Here’s the thing though…

By doing that you’re disappointing yourself. The entire day is a complete write off instead of most of it being one. By staying strong and sticking to your plan you’re giving yourself a win! You are looking that bad day in the face and saying “NO! You aren’t getting all of it.” Believe me when I say I know how it feels to want to give up. I have had more than my fair share of those days in the last several weeks. And doesn’t it almost feel like something’s out to get you when you start a new eating plan or set a new goal?

Push passed it!

…because when you do it gets easier to do the next time. It’s not easy to stay on track when everything else is falling apart but in those moments you need to be there for yourself because no one else is. You need to be the one to comfort yourself with the knowledge that even though everything else is a mess, at least you’re still shrinking. Even though little Toto’s funeral is this afternoon in the backyard, at least you can celebrate his life with a piece of sugar-free cheesecake. Don’t drown your sorrows in off plan treats, it just makes you feel worse anyway and so very disappointed in yourself. Instead, when everything else is wrong, do the one thing you know is right for you and stick to your guns.
