Documenting The Marathon
By Meggan Larson
I’m sure you’ve heard it said before that weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. But what does that really mean? Part of what it means is that it didn’t take you 3 days to gain all the extra weight you’re carrying and you therefore can’t expect to lose it all in 3 days. I know how frustrating it can be to feel like it’s not happening fast enough or that other people are getting results quicker than you are but it’s important to lose weight in a healthy way for YOUR body. Comparing yourself to others is going to rob you of your joy and discourage you faster than anything else will.
There is only one sure way to get to your goal weight…
And that is by staying consistent and not giving up. It’s by taking before pictures and continuing to take pictures and measurements as you progress even if it doesn’t seem like the scale is moving fast enough. There’s no better way to see your progress than to take pictures of it. There’s no easier way to prove to yourself that you are getting results than to check your measurements and see them getting smaller. Even a single inch less than last month is progress in the right direction! It took my friend Carmen 13 months to lose 161lbs. You can be sure that in the beginning she felt discouraged and as though it wasn’t happening fast enough. She kept going though and eventually achieved the results she was aiming for. She has successfully kept that weight off for a year now. Sometimes a mere 5lbs on the scale makes an incredible difference in how you look but if you’re too focused on what that number says then you’re going to get discouraged.
With Trim Healthy Mama you’ve gotta give yourself enough time to really learn the plan and understand what you need to do in order to lose weight. For most of us learning THM was like learning a completely new language. That doesn’t happen in a day or two. It comes with repetition, practice, asking questions, and making mistakes. So make those mistakes, take a bunch of pictures, stay consistent, and lose that weight! Compete only with your own personal best because that’s what matters the most.
