Do You Remember?
By Meggan Larson
Do you remember the things you loved to do when you were a child? I liked all sorts of things and most of it came naturally. I didn’t have an artistic bone in my body (still don’t really) and I was fine with that until I tried to compete with my super artsy sister. Note to self ~ comparison can steal your contentment. I’ve often convinced myself that I have never been a fan of exercise but that’s simply not true.
I used to love all sorts of things it’s just that…
…I never considered them exercise!
Swimming, playing, running with my friends, playing volleyball, badminton, biking, etc. The list really does go on. I’m not sure when I decided that it was no longer cool to do those things but dang, I wish I hadn’t. There’s no sense living in regret though and the truth is, I never actually stopped loving those activities! Do you remember what you used to love? It’s not too late friend. We have the ability to think outside the box and enjoy exercise again! If you loved to swim, pick it back up again. Most pools have very inexpensive lane swims several times per week. Did you love to play volleyball? Find a local pick up league that you can jump in with every now and then! We don’t have to limit ourselves to a simple gym membership or workout DVD. There are plenty of ways to get your sweat on without keeping it boring and mundane. And dare I say some ways are more fun than others…
Do your best to remember what you once loved and get back to it! There’s no rule that says exercise has to be boring. I know that we can make all the excuses in the world ~ I have my kids all day, my house needs cleaning, my to-do list is too long, etc. The fact is that when we incorporate exercise into our lives we actually gain more energy to do the things we need to do! If you have your kids all day like I do then bring them along for a few walks per day. They’ll love to get to the park and you’ll get your exercise on. Think outside the box friend, you’ve got this!
