Desperate For Change

Desperate For Change

by Diana Scothorn

I have learned that there are a lot of desperate people. I see single people desperate to be married.  I see married people desperate to be single!  I see unhappy people desperate to be happy, but God wants single and married alike to be desperate for Him!

Desperation in the wrong state of mind can be devastating. When we have nowhere to turn or no way out, we become desperately hopeless. Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.”  In every situation I have desperately found myself in, my spirit was crushed!  The good news is…

Psalms 34:18 says, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Desperation is not always a bad position.  In desperate times, I’ve discovered God opens my eyes to things I had previously been blinded to.

Desperation inevitably presents an urgent need. It demonstrates the urgency to be loved; urgency to be valued, an urgency to be appreciated, urgency for friendship, or whatever the need at hand. Urgency typically demands immediate attention for something to change! I’ve learned that in these desperate times of pain, loneliness, anger, confusion, and frustration, it is wise to turn my attention towards God!

I can remember a devastating time in my life, losing my sister at thirty-five years of age and five short months later losing my former marriage.  I was one desperate woman!  I was devastated at the direction my life was going and was desperate for a change!

I’ve learned only through God’s help and my willingness can God bring the change necessary to get lasting results! It only makes our situation worse when we turn our attention to things that bring temporary relief or comfort, such as food, alcohol, pills, or spending money, to obtain a temporary fulfillment!  When we get to the point we’re desperate enough to do whatever is necessary for change, it’s when things will begin to change!

I became so desperate that every time the church doors opened, I was there.  It was not for social reasons or to get a good mark on my “attendance” for church, but I was in such a desperate state, it was the only way I could find relief and have any hope for change!

When I walked in the church doors, it was like inhaling oxygen to make it through another day! The breath of God’s Word brings encouragement and restoration and lasting change, and it’s why they call it the Good News!

It’s never an easy place to be when you’re in a desperate position, but it is an excellent place to be when you turn your desperation into determination. When I came to the place in my life that I was desperate enough, I became determined to believe God at His Word!

This was a pivotal point when my life began to CHANGE and Move Forward With Power!!!  God’s  Spoken Word for my Life had More Power than the Devil’s Lies he presented!  I was determined to Press In, Press On, and Press Through until I was standing on the winning side!

When mountain’s present themselves in life, it can be overwhelming,  but when you are standing on top of the mountain, it is a beautiful sight to see.  Isaiah 52:7 says,  How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns.”

God is Fighting our Battle!   It is up to me and you to stand on top of our “Mountain” and Rejoice In the Victory! What we do in Desperate times can make us or break us. If we turn our Desperation into determination, the devil loses every time!

We can choose to go around the obstacle (leaving our obstacle in the center of our life), go under the obstacle (leaving the weight of the obstacle on top of our life), or go through it,  and use the obstacle as a “stepping stone” for necessary Change!

Whether we want our relationship status to change, our marriage to change, our health to change, our children to change, or clothes size to change, it’s all a matter of being Desperate Enough, That You Have Had Enough!!!  God will take our Desperation and work it out for our good!  When we become Desperate for God, He Changes Everything!!!!
