Daily Little Pushes

Years ago, my daughter was dating a college football player. He was a linebacker and the size of a small bulldozer. Summer is training season, and the boy was up before dawn; working out, running drills, and lifting weights. Whenever he came over my daughter would ask him a pretty simple question, “Are you sore?”
He would always look at her and say, “Unless I tell you otherwise, you can just assume I am always sore.”
I laughed about this, but then later realized how true that really was. When you’re in training, you are always sore! You are constantly pushing your limits and working muscles you didn’t even know you had. It applies to football as much as it does motherhood.
None of us signed up for motherhood because it’s easy. We did it because it’s worth it. I know sometimes that worth can seem hidden beneath piles of dirty diapers and loads of laundry, but it’s there. There is true value in motherhood, but you won’t find it until you…
…roll up your sleeves and put in the sweat equity that makes it all worthwhile.
The reason you train is for the results you want to get. If a linebacker wants to make the team and win the games, he gets up and puts in the hours. He does one more lap, one more rep, one more lift because he knows that it may be that one push that gives him the edge he wants. Mama, you need an edge in life. You were made for victory, not defeat. God designed you to be on top of the mountain, not buried beneath it. I know it can seem overwhelming sometimes, but understand that success is nothing but a combination of a lot of tiny little pushes. With enough tiny little pushes, you’ll be at the top of your game.
So what victory are you after? Do you want to be out of debt? Then do the daily little pushes ~ cut the coupons, turn off the lights, put the shoes back on the shelf. Do you want to get in shape? Then do the little pushes ~ press “play” on the DVD, go for a walk, say “no” to seconds. Do you want to build a strong family? Then do the little pushes ~ put down the phone and talk with your kid, have dinner around the table, pray together.
The truth is, everyone wants the results, but no one wants to do the little pushes. The little pushes never get easier. As the linebacker said, “I am always sore.” But pretty soon, you get used to the feeling. And not long after that, you begin to crave it. It’s called a “workout” for a reason. God placed a big dream inside of you, but you have to WORK it out!
