Curveballs
By Meggan Larson
Have you ever had a curveball thrown at you? Everything is going well and then boom ~ curveball. Something you weren’t expecting, something inconvenient, something that threatens to derail the success you’ve been experiencing. It happens to the best of us but the most important thing to remember is that…
…it doesn’t HAVE to derail you. I know curveballs aren’t fun, nor are they expected. It’s just one of those life things. An illness, an unexpected guest shows up with pizza, something happens that makes you really sad…the list goes on. These are the trials we get to experience because we live on planet earth. It’s not always fun or convenient but we do get to choose how we respond.
I’ll admit, I haven’t always chosen the high road in these instances. There are times I dove right into a box of donuts because I felt sad. When you feel sad you feel justified don’t you? It’s almost an irrational response. “I need these donuts NOW and nothing in the world will make me feel better in this moment.” Tht feels pretty justified yeah? But it’s nonsense and deep down we know that. Of course those donuts don’t even make you feel better. They make you feel worse and are often accompanied by diarrhea so there’s that aspect as well.
Trust me, I feel the pain of a well timed curveball just like anyone else. It’s up to you if you want to let it knock you down and keep you there. You have the choice to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and hit that ball out of the park next time. You don’t have to eat an entire pie to yourself in the meantime.
