Count Your Blessings!
Every once and awhile I like to write from our dog Bonnie’s perspective. Here is a Bonnie Byte to enjoy!
Every morning when I wake up I remain quietly in bed for a few moments. Sometimes I hear the patter of rain outside. Most of the time I see the sunlight peeking in through the curtains. Either way I’m content.
You see, what I’m considering in those few moments is that…
I have a lovely den in which to sleep. I also am guaranteed a bowlful of kibble during the day, with the possibility of additional treats. And I can depend on plenty of kind words and snuggles throughout my waking hours. That’s why you always see me smiling.
I’ve been hearing my human family talking a lot about an upcoming Holiday they call “Thanksgiving.” I was a bit mystified that they only spend one day for this. My humans told me about the historical significance so I would understand. But I still thought it odd that the feeling that pervades this season is not one that is being carried out the rest of the year.
That’s when I remembered my morning ritual. I encourage you all to follow suit – it’s quite easy. This is what you do: Upon waking, don’t leap out of bed. Consider the fact you’re even IN a bed. It’s cozy and warm. Blessing. Your are about to get up and start your day. You CAN get up. Blessing. Perhaps you go and get a drink of water. Indoor plumbing. A MIRACLE! You open a huge box called a refrigerator filled with all sorts of food. Two blessings. You have food AND it’s not going to spoil. It’s a wee bit cold in the house so you go over to the thermostat and turn up the heat. Another two blessings. You have heat and you realize you have thumbs! (I can’t do any of that myself). Most likely you have den mates, perhaps a spouse or pups. You are not alone. Blessing. If you have a family or (possibly AND) a job, you have a purpose for that day. Blessing. You are needed.
So as this season begins, make it a point to begin every day with a heart of “Thanksgiving.” It will set the tone for your day, and with practice, it will be the fire igniting your spirit the entire year. Like me, it will make you smile. May your true “Thanksgiving” be a change of heart, reaching to your very core, showing you that life – just as it is – is simply Pawfect! Snort!

Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
