Comparison Will Steal Your Joy
By Meggan Larson
Success stories are inspiring, aren’t they? You see them and they fill you with hope for your future. Part of you wants to cheer them on and post them all over your fridge for inspiration. It can be so encouraging to see people get such amazing results in such a short period of time. Sometimes the short period of time can do something else. You think to yourself “how have they lost 30lbs in 3 months?! What the heck am I doing wrong?”
The answer is quite simple…
You’re doing NOTHING wrong (most likely!).
Their journey is just that ~ THEIR journey! It’s not yours so comparing the two doesn’t make any sense. Who knows what their starting weight was? Not to mention the fact that your body may need some extra time to heal. I restarted my journey a couple of months ago because what I was doing was no longer getting me the results I wanted. I decided to jump in with Dr. Berg’s healthy Keto because I was already doing pretty much that with THM. At first, I didn’t lose anything but I knew that my body had been through SO much that I needed to give myself grace. After a few weeks, the weight started dropping off like I knew it would but more importantly the inches were coming off fast. The success stories were what originally drew me to Keto but they also started getting me frustrated because I thought that I should be getting better results. Some of those people had had surgery which is not something I need to do (I’m not knocking it at all, I know it’s a massive ordeal in and of itself and certainly is not the easy way out). When you have the weight loss surgery though it can make it seem like the ones who haven’t are losing a lot slower. I decided to just put my head down and keep at it because comparing my journey to someone else’s isn’t going to do anything but discourage me ya know? And it will do the same to you.
Stop comparing yourself and your results to others. If you think you should be getting better results than go back to the basics and start again. I’ve had to do that many times. This journey is forever y’all, there’s no need to get yourself discouraged by comparing yourself to others. You do you, that’s what matters.
