Every year, one of our favorite family traditions is to take a trip to one of our favorite destinations–Callaway Gardens. Why? Where do I even begin. Is it the lights? The gardens? The warm hearts and warm grits? Or, maybe it’s just all of these and so much more!
One of our favorite activities is definitely the…
Fantasy in Lights display. We all jump on the trolley (affectionately labeled, “Snowflake”) and ride along miles of sparkling pathways, full of Christmas scenes and beautiful music. In fact, there are over eight MILLION lights to look at–quite an eyeful!!
So, pretty! Right?? It’s truly magical, especially when you have everyone you love most in the whole wide world right there in the trolley with you.
Another part of Callaway Gardens that we love is the butterfly house. Yes, that’s right. A house full of beautiful butterflies–every girl’s dream! My kids have a great time picking out their favorites and trying to label them. This is a pic I took of an Owl Face Butterfly. Yes, I took this with my iPhone. How cool is that? When he opens his wings, he looks just like an owl’s face. Isn’t God amazing, how he created animals with such unique abilities?
I’ve tried. I’ve never been able to look like an Owl Face!!!!
There’s also tons of cute shops to browse around in. I always take a trip to the Country Store to pick up muscadine jelly and speckled heart grits (the best in the world). There’s even shopping at the Christmas Village (as you can tell by the pic, my son loves it!).
And there’s so much more–the nature walks, the botanical gardens, the ropes course, the beach….You’ll just have to check it out yourself.
It’s with heavy hearts that we return from Callaway Gardens…but we always have something to look forward to next year! What are some of your families favorite traditions through the holidays? I would love to hear…tell me below!
Hannah Keeley was once in overwhelmed mom living in a cluttered house, deep in debt, out of shape, and barely hanging on. But one day, after finding herself sobbing uncontrollably into a pile of clean laundry, she realized God has bigger and better plans for her (just like He does for each one of His children). Beginning that day, she began making changes in her life that took her from overwhelmed to overjoyed. Today, she’s helping moms do the same. Hannah, her husband, Blair, and their seven children live in Richmond, Virginia, and are having the time of their lives!
