Change Your Mind, Change Your Body
by Meggan Larson
There are people who swear that weight loss is simply calories in, calories out. I disagree. I’ve seen far too many people eating exactly what they’re supposed to be eating and find themselves going up in pounds instead of down. I’ve seen people restrict their calories to the extreme and sure that can work for a short time but most of the time the weight comes right back. I find that weight loss is a far more intricate beast than simply calories in, calories out.
There are just so many factors to consider like…
Age, medical history, emotional status, to name a few. What we put into our minds matters just as much as what we put into our mouths. When we binge watch television and get inundated with commercials selling the most delicious fast foods, we suddenly find ourselves hungry. That perfectly timed Dairy Queen ad has us craving a blizzard and before we know it we’re in line wondering how we got there. When we are fragile emotionally, almost anything can trigger us to binge on junk. Someone says something really rude to us, a friend deeply hurts our feelings, our husband accidentally calls us fat (or implies, or just looks at us strangely!) ~ these things can send us to the donut shop faster than you can say Tim Hortons or Dunkin’ Donuts.
This is why it’s so crucial to strengthen our minds.
When we pour good things into our minds it’s easier to resist temptation, it’s easier to make wise choices, it’s easier to want to stay on track. When we read good books, listen to edifying teaching, deal with our emotional issues, and get to the root of WHY we’re eating junk then we can begin to heal. That’s when we can stick to a plan that works, start an exercise routine and see it through, and speak to ourselves in edifying ways instead of beating ourselves up for failing yet again.
My question to you is, what are you doing today to strengthen your mind?
When you change your mind, you change your body!
