Blessed is She

During Thanksgiving, we always give thanks for those blessings that we have already received. What about if we did something really bold this year? What if we actually gave thanks for those things that we don’t even see yet?

When the angel visited Mary and told her that she was going to have baby Jesus, she immediately went to visit her cousin, Elizabeth, to share the news. Elizabeth said to her, “Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished” (Luke 1:45).

After Elizabeth said this, Mary prayed a prayer of praise and thanksgiving. In her prayer, she said, “From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me–Holy is His name” (Luke 1:48-49).

And the most rockin’ thing about this whole scenario was that …

SHE DIDN’T EVEN HAVE A BABY YET!! Mary just had the promise of a baby, that’s all. A promise.

We have more promises than we can even imagine. God has promised us that no weapon formed against us will prosper. He has promised us that we are to live abundant lives. He has promised us that we can move mountains. He has promised us that he will continually restore health unto us. He has promised us that our diligence will produce wealth. And it goes on and on and on. All through His Word, He lays out very specific promises for us.

Some believe Him. Some don’t.

Mary did. And she poured out her thanksgiving to God even before that promise came to pass in the physical world. So many times we go through life with a feeble excuse for faith. We mumble, “I want” or “I wish.” But real faith doesn’t waste time wanting and wishing. It knows. God said it. It’s happening. ‘Nuff said.

Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].”

Faith doesn’t mess around. If you have the deed to a house, you have the house. Even if you can’t see it or touch it, you know you’ve got it. When you’ve got a promise in the Word of God, you’re holding that deed. You may not be able to see it with your senses yet, but that doesn’t change the fact that you own it, free and clear. Real faith sees through spiritual eyes, not physical ones.

This Thanksgiving, let’s put on our eyes of faith. Let’s be bold with our thanks and be thankful for his promises. Be thankful for those things you are believing for. Do you want your marriage to be healed? Your home to be peaceful? Your children to be blessings? Your health to be made whole? Your finances to be restored? Don’t waste time wishing and wanting. Step boldly into the promises of God and go forth with thanksgiving. See it happening right now. Know that God is moving mountains on your behalf to bring those promises to pass. The only thing that can prevent Him is your lack of faith.

Be bold. Be thankful today for His blessings tomorrow.

So tell me, what are you thankful for?
