Avoiding Your Common Pitfalls
By Meggan Larson
If you’ve been on the weight loss bandwagon for a few years then you may have some traps that you’ve fallen into once or twice (or 50 times…who’s counting?). It can almost become like second nature to fall back into old patterns of starting off strong, losing weight quickly, getting comfortable, and putting the weight back on. Am I pushing any buttons here?
That’s because…
I know exactly what you’re going through! I’ve definitely found myself in similar patterns so let’s talk about it. The first step to avoiding your common pitfalls is not to get comfortable. Sure you may have lost weight quickly in the past and hopefully, it goes the same way this time, but that’s no reason to get comfortable and start making allowances so early in the game. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is eating off plan meals or snacks a few weeks into starting over. It sets the stage for backsliding ~ trust me.
Another pitfall you may want to avoid is getting discouraged while weighing yourself during that special time of the month. You retain water like craaaaaazy right before, during, and after so keep that in mind when popping on the scale. If you can maintain your weight during that time then you should see a nice drop afterward IF you stay on track. Don’t use that time as an excuse to eat everything and anything, no matter how tempting.
The last thing to mention is simply staying focused on your goals. Setting mini goals for each month can help you stay on track instead of one massive goal that you can lose sight of. It can be easy to convince yourself that you have all the time in the world when you look at the big picture. I find it actually helps me stay on track more when I look at the mini goals. Hopefully, this has been helpful to you to keep you on track on your journey!
