Are You Having A Meltdown?
By Terri Bonin
I recently watched the movie “I Can Only Imagine” in theatres and I just have to say WOW! It is literally one of the best movies I have ever seen. I had absolutely no idea of what the story behind that song was and to say it was “powerful” just doesn’t do it justice. I will do my best not to give any spoilers because you HAVE to go see it if you haven’t already. One of the reasons I found it so amazing is because of how clearly God was working in the main character’s life. There were times in his life when it seemed like the whole world was against him.
The beauty came in seeing how…
God worked it all out for good.
Literally, everything he went through led him to the places he needed to be at exactly the right time. I know that I have been guilty of giving in to my meltdowns. When something doesn’t go the way I wanted it to go I have often gotten angry or felt defeated instead of trusting in the Lord. Of course, hindsight is twenty-twenty but when you’re in the thick of it sometimes it seems hopeless. When the job falls through or the house doesn’t sell we can often wonder where God is. The beautiful thing is that we can trust His faithfulness and His character and therefore we know that His plan for us is to prosper.
That’s all well and good but sometimes we still have meltdowns right? Sometimes we need to just leave the piles of unfolded laundry, ignore the wet clothes that have gone through 3 wash cycles already, and just take a hot bath or have a nice cup of tea. Just for 20 minutes pretend like everything is perfect in your life. You can get to the laundry, to dinner, to making your kids lunches, and doing the dishes later. Occasionally, you really just need to put yourself in time out and have a few minutes all to yourself. It’s not selfish, it’s not mean, it’s necessary. When you’ve filled your cup then you can help fill the cups of those around you.
Tonight we are doing a special FB Live class called “The Girlfriend’s Guide To A Meltdown”. We will be covering even more tips on how to avoid a meltdown and how to deal with one when you’re already in it. It’s happening at 7:30 pm CST. Click here to join!
